Simone Moro

Simone Moro is a alpinist, Author, Speaker, helicopter pilot for commercial and rescue flights at high altitudes in the Himalayas and Altitude Helicopters.



He began practicing climbing at the age of 13, starting on the mountains close to home and later moving on to the Dolomites. In 1985, he started to dedicate himself to sport climbing, achieving his first 8a difficulty route in 1987, and by 1989, he had completed about thirty ascents up to 8b+

His achievements inspire people worldwide. His outstanding successes include the winter first ascents of four eight-thousanders: Shisha Pangma (8,027 m), Makalu (8,463 m), Gasherbrum II (8,035 m) and Nanga Parbat (8,126 meters), making him the only climber to have achieved this impressive feat during the complete winter season, starting after December 21st.

In his more than 20 published books, he shares his extraordinary experiences in the mountains with the world. His books offer deep insights into the life of a high-altitude mountaineer, his challenges, successes, and the personal insights he has gained on his expeditions.

The beginning of a new chapter in Moro´s life

At the age of 47, at what many would consider the pinnacle of his mountaineering career, Moro began to prepare for a new chapter in his life.

In the United States, spring of 2009. He embarked on an intensive training program, obtaining his private pilot’s license PPL(H) in just 33 days and completed his commercial license CPL(H) in another 36 days.

High altitude rescue on Teng Kang Poche

On May 18, 2012 Simone Moro participated in a rescue operation on Teng Kang Poche, recognized as possibly the highest helicopter wall recovery ever conducted.

On May 19, 2013 he broke his own record from the previous year by performing a longline recovery at an altitude of 7800 meters to rescue an injured climber.

Altitude record with ES101 Raven

On October 25, 2015, he set a new record by flying from Bolzano airport over the Dolomites to reach an altitude of 6,705 meters, achieving the world record for the highest altitude reached by a twin-seat turbine-powered helicopter under 500 kg (E-1a category).

Altitude Air

He works as a consultant for Altitude Air Foundation, a rescue helicopter company in Kathmandu. He oversees the logistics of shipping a helicopter from Europe to Nepal.
